layout workshop

This workshop was to make us think about layout which comes up in every piece of work. We were lucky enough to work wit Kid Acne who talked us through the thought process of positioning on the page & using both positive & negative space. We were given a number or silhouette shapes to chose two from & had to play around with their positioning as well as combining taking out blocks/chunks of the page & adding in type face:

This was my first attempt at this task. I chose the outline of some russian style architecture & a car. I chose these because I thought they had interesting shapes. I also looked at other possibilities of ways to work on the layout (as you can see to the right of the image.)

This was my next attempt at the task. I chose to replace the car silhouette with that of some kind of plant. This brought about my idea of urban & rural which I carried on as my theme of the project. I also added text into this piece & played around with where to take the blocks away from.

This was my final outcome from the workshop. I decided to not shade the shape in so that it was all a flowing colour. I don't like the black square in the corner, thats possibly what I'd change if I re-did it. I like how I've broken the word up into three lines, but I'm still not a big fan of blocking chunks of the page out. If this hadn't been part of the task, I personally wouldn't have bothered with this. I think the piece would flow better without it.
